THE NYC PLASTIC SURGEON OFFERS EXPERT LOWER EYELID LIFT PLASTIC SURGERY CONSULTATIONS (“LOWER BLEPHAROPLASTY SURGERY”)
Eyelid Lift Surgery (“Lower Blepharoplasty”) performed by NYC Lower Eyelid Plastic Surgeon Adam Schaffner, MD, FACS is specifically tailored to each and everyone of his NYC patients. Depending on a person’s age and ethnicity and desired result, Dr. Adam Schaffner typically uses a plastic surgery approach called “transconjunctival blepharoplasty.” With this blepharoplasty approach, there are no outside visible scars. However, no excess skin can be removed with this method alone. In the transcutaneous approach, a surgical incision is made directly below the eyelashes by the plastic surgeon to access the fat by lifting up the skin and going through the muscle to get to the enlarged “fat pads”.
Dr. Schaffner is not only an amazing surgeon with superb surgical skills but a caring doctor who ensures that his patients are comfortable and doing well mentally and physically before and after surgery. As a person in the medical profession, I highly value his commitment to patient care. He puts his patients first from striving to meet their desired outcomes to aspects of post-op care. His team was professional, organised and kind. The office was also amazing. I had a perfect experience with him and the team and would recommend them to everyone. ~ Google

Last month Dr, Schnaffner performed blepharoplasty surgery on my lower eyelids. Ten years ago I had both an upper and lower blepharoplasty procedure; and so I was especially afraid that my under eyelid skin would be too thin for this follow-up surgery, and so I was careful to choose the very best facial surgeon I could find. After reading many reviews- and especially after my consultation with Dr. Schnaffner- I chose Dr. Schnaffner. One week before my selected date I was diagnosed with two small brain tumors. Dr. Schnaffner, who had only met me once before, called me and told me to delay or permanently cancel my cosmetic surgery. He offered to help me in any possible way- or merely to talk with me if ever I had the need. Two months later I rescheduled my procedure. Apart from the excellent results, I was overwhelmed by his compassion and professionalism. I now understand fully why he is the recipient of so many outstanding reviews. ~ Google
Lower Eyelid Lift plastic surgery rejuvenates upper eyelid laxity by removing excess, drooping skin. Blepharoplasty plastic surgery removes excess skin and puffy bags below your eyes. Sometimes, these “puffy bags,” which are usually fat, can be used to help fill deep grooves/tear troughs around the eye.
These procedures will result in a significantly more youthful appearance. Most patients who opt for lower Eyelid Lift Surgery are 35 years old or older.
On occasion, droopy, baggy eyelids will occur in patients younger than 35 years of age, often due to genetics and/or extensive sun exposure. Therefore, many of NYC Lower Eyelid Lift Plastic Surgeon Dr. Adam Schaffner’s patients are of all ages and both genders. Oftentimes, a lower Eyelid Lift is combined with an Upper Blepharoplasty. NYC Plastic Surgeon Dr. Adam Schaffner performs both Blepharoplasty surgeries in his fully accredited outpatient office-based surgical facility
The lower eyelid incision is made by NYC Lower Eyelid Lift plastic surgeon Dr. Adam Schaffner from the inside (transconjunctival approach) or through a small incision hidden by the eyelashes of the lower eyelid. The eyelid skin is then closed with very fine sutures. Excess skin and fatty tissue is removed, the muscles and orbital septum (a thin connective tissue membrane) may be tightened, and the incisions are carefully closed. In the vast majority of cases, there are no visible scars associated with this procedure. Often, a corner lifting suture is placed inside to slightly elevate the corner of the eye to give it a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.
Lower eyelid blepharoplasty generally takes approximately about 1 to 1.5 hours to complete, depending on the technique used for your specific eyelid surgery case.
The Lower Eyelid Lift (Lower Blepharoplasty Surgery) plastic surgery procedure is frequently performed at the same time as other plastic surgery procedures, such as a Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty, Endoscopic Browlift, Facelift, and/or facial fillers. It may also be combined with laser skin rejuvenation.

- How can Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty surgery correct bags and dark circles? The surgery needs to be individually customized for each patient by NYC eyelid plastic surgeon Dr. Adam Schaffner. In most of his NYC patients, the result is best if the lower eyelid fat bags are transposed and trimmed as opposed to being removed. In some patients, the result is even better if the drooping cheek or mid-face is also lifted. Fat transposition involves moving fat from the lower eyelid into the valley between the eyelid and cheek. In doing so, the fat from the lower eyelid is moved down to fill in the dark or depressed circle.
- Where is the surgical incision made to correct bags in the lower eyelids? NYC eyelid Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Adam Schaffner makes the incision through the pink tissue on the back side of the lower eyelids or just underneath the lower eyelid eyelashes. Both incisions heal very well and are generally imperceptible once healed.
- What should I expect after Eyelid Surgery? After Lower Eyelid Lift surgery (Blepharoplasty), a topical antibiotic ointment which is safe for use around the eyes is applied to the incisions. Cold compresses are used for about 48 hours after surgery to prevent any swelling. It is advisable to avoid strenuous activity for the first week, but light activities and showering are permitted.
